Apparently, I've mastered science

Passed!
Specifically, passed with typographical revisions only. I’ll be getting the formal list in about a week, and then making the revisions (which shouldn’t take more than an hour or so), printing out a copy of the thesis (and burning another to CD), and then handing it in. I should be totally done no more than halfway through August.
The defence went quite well. Only a few unexpected types of questions, and I think I handled them fairly well. I did miss a question on where you’d expect to find porphyrins on the Earth (in your bloodstream, apparently), but given that I was (sort-of) looking for them in other galaxies, this wasn’t considered to be a major point against me. Quite a few astrograds showed up to show their support (which was very nice), and I’m told that I handled things quite well, which is always nice to hear.
In other news, dates for my Baltimore interview trip have been decided. I’ll be arriving the evening of August 2nd, interviewing the early afternoon of August 4th, and leaving during the afternoon on the 5th. I don’t expect that any of the people who read this are likely to be in Baltimore at that point, but if so let me know and I’ll see what can be done about getting together.
