Spoons, chopsticks, and an update

Written on June 19, 2008

First off, the situation that I wrote of earlier has been resolved, and reasonably well from what I can see. And I’m still being cryptic, but anyone who’s curious will just have to suffer.

Second, I have a story to tell about today. The sink in the bathroom has been problematic ever since I got here (and apparently even before), but today (well, Friday, but mostly noticeable today and yesterday) it finally stopped draining at all. So, despite our misgivings, we went and bought drain cleaner.

When we were back from our grocery shopping, we used it as directed, and then I started to flush it with hot water (also as directed). There’s a crosspiece just below sink level in the drain, and it looked as if there was stuff stuck to it and hanging from it, so I got a chopstick to try to get rid of the stuff.

And it worked perfectly. Things were draining better, and the stuff was being flushed away. And then I tried to push on some a bit and the chopstick broke, sending half of it down the drain. This startled me, and I loosened my grip, sending the other half also right down the drain.

So, on the up side, the bathroom sink now drains perfectly. On the down side, there’s a chopstick in there in two pieces, and given my current record (I also forgot to take a spoon out of the rice flour today and spent a few minutes looking for it before giving up — Morgan found it later on), I don’t really want to try to get the pieces out, for fear that I’ll drop something else down the drain. And, of course, everyone here finds it quite amusing. As do I actually. I’m just feeling a bit sheepish at the moment.

Well, that’s all for now….
